…. bin heute von Invercargill nach Bluff per Anhalter gefahren und habe die südlichste und zugleich westlichste Stadt Neuseelands besucht. Ich hatte mit mindestens 1 Stunde warten gerechnet aber nach 5 min hatte ich ne Mitfahrgelegenheit. Von der Ortsmitte in Bluff ging es zu Fuss zum Stirling Point wo ein Mast mit Hinweisschildern aufgestellt ist der den Gegenpol zu dem auf Cape Reinga 1401 km nördlich darstellt. Bin dann von dort den Foveaux Ocean Track immer am Meer entlang zurück in die Stadt gelaufen. Im Winter ist es möglich hier Wale zu beobachten aber die waren heute nicht zusehen. Auf dem Rückweg ging es auch wieder recht schnell … John ein Austern Fischer aus Bluff nahm mich mit nach Invercargill. Es ist ziemlich interessant Dinge zu erfahren über das Leben der Leute hier und Sie erzählen einem bereitwillig was immer man wissen will.

… today I went from Invercargill to Bluff by hitchhiking. I visited the southern and also the western city of New Zealand. I expected 1 hour to wait for a lift but I’m lucky after 5 min a car has stopped and took me to Bluff. From Downtown Bluff I walked to the Stirling Point, over there is a sign situated which is the opposite of the sign at Cape Reinga 1401 km far away. After my visit at Stirling Point I walked the Foveaux Ocean Track along the Coast back to Bluff. In the winterseason its possible to see whales but today there was only the sea and me. From Bluff on the way back I’m lucky again after a few minutes a car stopped, the driver John, a Oyster men gave me a lift back to Invercargill. It’s quite interesting to talk with locals and they are happy as well to tell you whatever you want to know about their live.

Oh man ich scheine das Glück gepachtet zu haben … zu meinem Ausflug heute zeigt sich das Wetter wieder von der besten Seite … es war ein herrlicher Tag um den Milford Sound zu erkunden. Nach dem Frühstück ging der Bus 10:15 Uhr von Te Anau auf der Milford Road Richtung Milford Sound, unterwegs haben wir immer wieder mal gestoppt um Fotos zu schießen zum Beispiel an den Mirror Lakes oder The Chasm. Die letzten 17 km dieser Strasse, die übrigens Weltkulturerbe ist, sind im Winter nicht ganz ungefährlich zu befahren immer wieder kommt es zu Schneelawinen die die Strasse unpassierbar machen bis Bagger und Radlader alles beräumt haben, nach heftigen Schneefällen ist sie häufig auch gesperrt. In diesem Abschnitt ist es auch verboten anzuhalten und die Ampelanlage des einspurigen Homer Tunnel die im Sommer bei den Massenverkehr notwendig ist, ist ausser Betrieb wegen der Lawinengefahr!!! 2008 war die Milford Seite völlig verschüttet und für 3 Wochen unpassierbar. Kurz nach 13 Uhr sind wir zu unserer Bootstour gestartet mit diesem unglaublichem Wetter, den schneebedeckten Bergen, inklusive dem Mitre Peak und auf dem Rückweg von der Tasman See haben uns sogar Delfine begleitet. Kurz nach 17 Uhr war ich wieder zurück in Te Anau und konnte noch die untergehende Sonne beobachten.

Milford Sound……

I’m quite lucky …. because I booked a Trip and the weather was pretty good again well done. A gorgeous day to explore the Milford Sound. After the breakfast I went by bus from Te Anau heading Milford Sound at 10:15am. On the way we stopped a lot to take some pictures as example at the Mirror Lakes or The Chasm. We went on the Milford Road wich is a World Heritage Highway, interesting the last 17 km on the way to the Milford Sound are a little bit dangerous in the wintertime because the snow avalanche can be a problem. Sometimes the road is closed especially after heavy snowfalls, it needs time to clear the Road by diggers and heavy machines. In this part of the road its forbidden to stop at all as well because its to dangerous. Also the traffic lights which operate at the one lane Homer Tunnel (necessary during the main season, too much crowds) is out of order in the winter season, risk of a avalanche. 2008 the Milford gate of the Homer Tunnel was buried by lots of snow and the road closed for 3 weeks. Arrived in Milford Sound we started to our boat trip with a unbelievable weather, snow covered mountains included the Mitre Peak and on the way back a few dolphins come with us next to the boat. Short after 5pm we are back in Te Anau I enjoyed the Sunset above the mountains at Lake Te Anau … good on ya …

Auch heute wieder Wetter wie aus dem Bilderbuch…. so habe ich mich heute am Roberts Point Track versucht, der zu einem Aussichtspunkt über dem Franz Josef Gletscher führt. Das besondere an diesem Track ist das man zumeist über Felsen kraxeln muss und die sind zu dieser Jahreszeit nass und rutschig aber ich hatte ausreichend Zeit eingeplant und war vorbereitet. Es ist eine 5 Stunden Wanderung hin und zurück angezeigt und man überquert dutzende Bäche und Flüsse, passiert 3 Hängebrücken und hat unterwegs immer wieder wahnsinnige Aussichten auf die Schneebedeckten Berge, für mich der beste Walk seid dem Tongariro Crossing. Carmen Du wärst stolz auf mich ich habe den Track in 3 Stunden 45 Minuten bewältigt … trotz aller Vorsicht !!! So morgen gehts nach Queenstown bin gespannt was mich dort erwartet ….

Roberts Point Track…. one of the best!!!

Today the weather was like yesterday …pretty good… so I went to the Roberts Point Track, this Track goes to a lookout above the Franz Josef Glacier. This Track is not easy especially now because its a rocky track, you have to climb and its slippery as well, good hiking boots are essential. But I planned enough time to do this and I was prepared for a hike like this. Normally its a 5 hour hike and you across lots of creeks, passed 3 swingbridges and have also incredible views to the snow covered mountains on the way. For me personal the best hike after the Tongariro Crossing.@Carmen you were proud of me because I did very well I walked in 3 hours and 45 minutes and I was careful as well. Tomorrow I will go to Queenstown and I’m really looking for that.

Man habe ich wieder mal Glück…. bin seid gestern in Franz Josef Glacier Township und das Wetter ist traumhaft … hätte ich echt nicht gedacht. Mein Plan war, sollte es Kaiserwetter geben will ich auf jedenfall Flightseeing probieren und so kam es, waren knapp 1 Stunde in den Southern Alps unterwegs im Flugzeug haben Fox und Franz Josef Gletscher abgeflogen und auch eine Runde um den höchsten Berg Neuseeland Mt. Cook gedreht inklusive Turbulenzen es war der Hammer … wir waren um 12 Uhr zurück und nach dem Mittag blieb noch genug Zeit um eine Wanderung zu machen so bin ich den Alex Knob Track bis zum ersten Lookout gelaufen (5h) erst durch den den Regenwald immer höher und höher und zum Schluss durch den Schnee aber noch im Wald… ein super Tag mit 2 Highlights!!!

I’m so lucky .. again …I arrived yesterday in Frank Josef Glacier Township and the weather is incredible … the weather is better than I thought. My plan was if the weather is really really good to go Flightseeing and finally I did it !!! We went approximately 1 hour around the Southern Alps we visited Fox and Franz Josef Glacier and flew around Mt Cook New Zealands highest Mountain included turbulences I really enjoyed this adventure !!! We were back at 12 Clock and after lunch there was plenty of time to do a walk. So I did the Alex Knob Track until the first lookout (5h hike) first I walked through the rainforest along the track higher and higher and finally through the track was snow covered a incredible day with two highlights… well done.

Am Donnerstag verlasse ich die Region um Nelson und die Tasman Bay … war jetzt eine Woche wwoofen in Motueka bei einer alten Dame die einen tollen Garten hat. Hab da Bäume verschnitten bzw. auch einen gefällt sowie Gras gehauen mit der Motorsense usw. Nach der Woche bin ich nun zurück in Nelson und reise als nächstes nach Franz Josef entlang der Westküste. Ich hoffe das Wetter spielt mit den normalerweise ist dieser Abschnitt und weiter bis Queenstown bekannt für viel Regen.

Next Thursday I will leave the region around Nelson and Tasman Bay I went one week to a wwoofing place next to Motueka. I worked for an old Lady with a beautiful garden. I did tidy up the garden include telling a tree and using the weedeater to cut the high grass areas. After a week over there I’m back in Nelson City and now I will travel to Franz Josef along the westcoast. Hopefully the weather is not too bad because normally this area and until Queenstown is famous for much rain …

Nelson

Wir sind früh um 7:40 Uhr in Nelson gestartet, am National Park angekommen wurden wir eingewiesen in die Benutzung der See tauglichen Kajaks. Dann ging es samt den Kajaks mit dem Wassertaxi zur Onetahuti Bay, von dort mit den Kajaks sind wir in See gestochen um Tonga Island zu erkunden und die Robben Kolonie zu sehen wir konnten sogar in eine kleine Bucht von der Insel die Sie den Robbenkindergarten nennen weil dort die Jungtiere das schwimmen lernen und vorallen das spielen. Von Tonga Island sind wir südlich entlang der Küste zur Bark Bay gepaddelt. Dort war unser Lunch Stop und da das Wasser so klar war und der Sand so weiss ist es über mich gekommen und ich war Baden … bei 12 Grad Wassertemperatur und 15 Grad Lufttemperatur … ja es war kalt aber das war es wert … danach gab es heisse Suppe und Snacks. Ich habe mich von der Gruppe dann getrennt (andere Tour) und bin den Abel Tasman von dort an südwärst Richtung Start gelaufen. Angekommen an der Torrent Bay ca. 2 Stunden später wurde ich vom Wassertaxi abgeholt und es ging zurück zum Ausgangspunkt in Marahau wo wir so gegen halb 5 zurück nach Nelson aufgebrochen sind…..

ABEL TASMAN….Kayak, Seals and also Hike what a beautiful day

We started at 7:40am in Nelson, after arriving at the National Park we were professional briefed how to use a Seakayak. A Watertaxi carried us and the Seakayaks as well to Onetahuti Bay on this point we started to go offshore to explore the Tonga Island also to watch the seal colony. We were lucky it was possible to see and explore the seal nursery, in a small bay situated on Tonga Island where they young seals learn to swim and play – awesome. From Tonga Island we paddled heading south along the coastline to Bark Bay. Over there was our Lunch Stop planned. The water was so clear and the golden beach animated me to take bath and swim in the Tasman Sea of course the water temperature was 12 degree air 15 … bloody cold but brave as well. After lunch head off to explore the flora and fauna of the Abel Tasman Track by myself, I did a 2 hour Hike, I walked heading south, startpoint of the track as well after them I arrived at Torrent Bay where the watertaxi picked me up to give me a lift at the homebase of the Kayak Company which is situated in Marahau. 4:30 we started back to Nelson .

….da haben wir’s wieder, Nelson ist deutsch angehaucht, bin so durch den Supermarkt geschlendert und plötzlich schrien mich diese Bierdosen an … Radeberger gibt es hier in Neuseeland nicht mal im Spezialaden geschweige den im Supermarkt… ja und Radeberger kann es sich scheinbar auch leisten das Bier in Dosen zu importieren fürs bessere Geschmackserlebniss also dann Prost

Beware and notice “Radeberger” is a famous brand of beer in saxony (my place at home) also the name of the City where they brew this beer !!!!
And again… Nelson seems really German because I was surprised today I went to the supermarket to buy some groceries and WOW what’s that…. a couple of beer cans yelled me on …( no no …..not like “hey man, how is going? How was your day? Take a seat, relax, drink me!!!” It’s only a saying in Germany )  this brand of beer is normally not available in New Zealand not in the liquor stores and definitely not in supermarkets…. and it seems the bloody brewery “Radeberger” is good enough to import her product in cans (instead bottles) to overseas… not the best way for a good taste …. I don’t care … cheers
